Entertaining Etiquette For Dolts

I was talking to my pal Leslie this morning on the way to work.
She was telling me about someone (who shall remain nameless) that had a few guests over to her home the other night. This nameless dolt proceeded to make her unsuspecting guests sit through a SIX HUNDRED count digital photo slide show of her recent trip to France.

Yes. That is AWFUL. Do you want to hear how it was worse then you can even imagine?

She set the entire thing to a Michael Bolten soundtrack.

Okay. To all you social DOLTS out there. We do NOT want to see THAT many pictures of your cheezy-ass trip to France. Sure, we would not mind seeing about a dozen interesting pictures.

But THAT is about it. So here is your tip.

  1. Pick out all the pictures you want to show your friends.

  2. Okay. Now cut that stack in half.

  3. Now choose your top twenty photos from that stack.

  4. Now take out all the photos in that chosen stack that are of sunsets.

There you have it. An interesting 12 to 14 pictures of your latest adventure.

Upload the rest to a photo sharing website and if your friends and family really want to see more, they can do it on their own time and not put the rest of us through the tedious viewing.

My most favorite dyke ever.

I just watched an interview video with the ever charming Alison Bechdel on Velvet Park Magazine's website.

It's really a sweet look into Alison's work and her winning an Eisner Award at Comic Con 07.

She is an amazing artist. If you have not read her book Fun Home yet... PLEASE, go out and buy it. You will not be able to stop reading it once you open it.

I cannot WAIT to read the one she is working on now.

Flower Power

After coffee with the guys this afternoon I went with Sharon to the Botanical Garden.

I had not been there since they redid the whole place. Oh... and started charging to get in now too. $7.50 for adults.

I have to say though, it was totally worth it. The Glass House exhibits were amazing. Little tropical birds and butterflies flitting about in the gorgeous and humid as hell garden.

Going outside and walking around the grounds was very calming and nice. I needed some "calming and nice" sort of activity.

After the Botanical Gardens we walked over to the "still under construction" Cleveland Museum of Art. There was a history of photography exhibit of sorts. My favorite photo was the Margaret Bourke White shot of Cleveland in 1928.

It was a view from W. 25th street. It was a smoggy beautiful picture of the Terminal Tower. Can something look "lush" AND "dirty" at the same time? It did.

After going thru the photography exhibit we went and sat outside in the soon to be destroyed courtyard. Sad. I really love how quiet and peaceful it is there. I am going to miss it.

I used to spend sad Sundays there about 10 years ago "journaling my rage." (An old Saturday Night Live joke phrase)

I finally got my new computer for home.

So I get to do things at home I don't have time to do at work.

Like make a shiny, glassy bean in Illustrator.

Shiny huh?

It's been a hard few days. Harder then I would have imagined.
